The Eucalyptus tree has its origin in Australia. There are host of health benefits of eucalyptus plant. Eucalyptus leaves and its oil have been traditionally used as Aboriginal cure for a wide range of diseases. Presently eucalyptus extracts are extensively used across the globe in pills, liquids, inhalers and ointments as a cure for several ailments that are general in nature.
Functions of Eucalyptus
As far as internal health problems are concerned Eucalyptus seems to assist in easing indications of colds, flu, chest blockage, throat problems, bronchitis, pneumonia, and respiratory infections.
For treating problems pertaining to the body, Eucalyptus leaves can be used in the form of tea or tincture. Tea prepared from eucalyptus leaves when used as a gargle is effective in easing the problems associated with sore throat.
For preparing a tincture, 200 grams of parched or 300 grams of fresh Eucalyptus leaves should be kept in a big disinfected jar. The jar should be filled totally with rum or vodka and subsequently closed. The content of the jar must be allowed to remain for a period spanning between 10 to14 days with the jar shaken after every few days. After a period of two weeks, the content should be emptied by pouring it over a clean cheesecloth or muslin cloth into a fresh disinfected bottle. The soaked herb should be pressed hard to obtain as much of the mixture as feasible. The jar should be placed in a dark place and the contents can be regularly taken. The recommended quantity for use is 1 teaspoon combined with juice or water 2-3 times every day.

For relieving congestion, asthma, and respiratory problems, Eucalyptus leaves should be boiled in a firmly closed pot, and then the vapor must be breathed in after the pot is removed from heat. Eucalyptus leaves placed in a mesh bag and placed beneath the bath faucet while you take a hot bath ensures that your bath is antiseptic.
When taken in moderation, Eucalyptus is fairly safe, but at times it does seem to be quite tough to remove it from the kidneys. Those suffering from kidney or liver problems, or those who are pregnant should do well not to use it and even if used should be taken in utmost moderation. Its prolonged use is not recommended in such situations.
