Research Proves the Antioxidant Property of Rubia Cordifolia

The ancient branch of medicine, Ayurveda is always known to recommend this herb for skin care. Research now confirms the antioxidant property of the herb Rubia Cordifolia. The study was carried out at the Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi-221005, India. This article tries to again further insight.

The Free Radicals and Antioxidants: Human beings breathe oxygen in and let out carbondioxide. The lungs separate the oxygen from the other harmful gases. Later this oxygen is absorbed by the blood. During this process, many chemical reactions take place inside the body. They produce several substances which are either useful or harmful to the body. The harmful substances are called free radicals. Skin faces maximum threats from these free radicals. Antioxidants are substances which fight with the free radicals and keep their number in check. They protect the skin from external factors like sun, wind, temperature and pollution. Internal factors like emotions, stress and aging are also taken care by antioxidants.
