Valerian (Valeriana officinalis) is a hardy perennial flowering plant native to Europe and Asia. It is also known as All-heal, Amantilla, Setwall, Setewale and Capon’s Tail. - It is also used for ailments like restlessness and anxiety. It acts as a good muscle relaxant.

Side Effects and Cautions:

- It is contraindicated in pregnant or nursing women. Children should not take valerian unless recommended by a registered medical practitioner.
- Valerian may have interaction with medications such as benzodiazepines. Thus people taking these medications should not take valerian.
- There can be excessive sleepiness if valerian is taken with sedative herbs such as hops, catnip and kava.
