Benefits of Dandelion

The sharp edges of the leaves of Dandelion has given rise to the name ‘dents de lion’ in French, which means lion’s tooth. Dandelion is a native to Asia and is a member of the sunflower family. Though the plant is generally considered a weed, dandelion is also believed to be ‘ the richest green vegetable source of beta-carotene’ and ‘the third richest source of vitamin A’. Its roots were used by ancient Arabs to treat liver disorders. Later on French started using Dandelions as salads and as home remedies.

The bright yellow Dandelion flowers are beautiful to look at and they are used mainly for decorative purposes. Dandelions have also been used as a laxative, for treating diabetes, liver disorders, etc. The leaves of the Dandelions are crushed and its juice is used to treat loss of appetite, stimulate bile flow, etc.
