Tips On Growing Herbs

Growing herbs is a very easy task, if certain points are kept in mind. They not only add color to your garden but infuse a beautiful aroma in the surrounding, making the ambience pleasant and refreshing.

Using these herbs, which you have grown with lot of effort and care definitely brings about a feeling of pride and satisfaction.

Herbs when used during cooking add great flavor and reduce the need to use salt in the food.

Here are some tips that you can keep in mind to ensure a fresh growth of herbs in your garden

1) One needs to invest minimal amount of time, effort and patience in growing an herbal garden.

2) It is important that the herbal plants are exposed to a great amount of sunlight, a minimal time of 6-8 hours. This is important, as long time of exposure leads to a strong flavored herb.

3) Herbs do not need soils that are highly fertile, so one can plant them in any type of soil.

4) It is important that the soil in which the herb is planted in has good drainage ability. One can enhance the drainage ability of the soil by adding moss, compost or peat to the soil before planting the herb.

5) Not all seeds can be transplanted from an indoor environment to an outdoor atmosphere. Coriander, fennel, and anise are some herbs, which have to be planted directly outside in the garden.

6) Some herbs like dill and basil have to be replanted annually but some herbs like rosemary and sage are perennials.

7) Herbs grown indoors need supplemental lighting. So make sure you provide one.

8)  One can also make freezing herbs. One needs to put herbs in water, store it in an ice container and let it freeze. Once frozen one can use these herbal cubes to add flavor their drinks
