Herbs are said to be rich in medicinal and healing properties. If you have a huge stock of herbs piled up at home, it is very important you store them properly. If stored properly you can use them while cooking. Here are some tips, which will help you store herbs in the right way.

Fresh Herbs: If you have got hold of fresh herbs and wouldn’t be using it for the next few days, then wrap it up in a wet cloth and place it in the refrigerator. If you would be using it shortly then place it in a bowl of water.

Drying Herbs: If the herbs are wet and are still drying, then hang them upside down in a dark place. Once dry crush up the herb and store it in an airtight jar. Use these herbs as soon as possible as they tend to loose their flavor quickly.

Freezing Herbs: Tarragon and chives freeze well, whereas leafy herbs like parsley and cilantro freeze well when placed in water. This way they stay fresh and don’t loose their flavor.

How To Cook Herbs

Before using herbs for cooking, always wash them to get rid of dust, bugs or any other kind of uncleanliness. Once washed allow the water to drain off from the herbs. The stem of the herbs is said to be very bitter, so it would be better if one would snip off the leaves before using them for cooking. Crush the herbs before adding them on to the recipe, this way the flavor will stay very well.
