Here are few simple steps which can enhance your salad taste by adding fresh herbs:
- Before using the herbs wash them thoroughly under running water. Take small amount of herbs for washing.
- Remove excess amount of water either by shaking the herbs or by keeping them in a strainer.
- With the help of salad spinner dry the herbs or you can even use paper towel for this task.
- Now using a sharp knife cut the washed and dried herbs into small pieces.
- To any type of salad according to your taste you can add these fresh herbs. The herbs would enhance the taste of the tossed salads as well as seafood, pasta and potato.
Tips to use fresh herbs in salads:
- Try adding freshly chopped basil, parsley and dill to pasta, creamy potato and seafood salad. You can even add fresh parsley, chervil, cilantro and tarragon to the tossed vegetable salads.
- If you want to cut herbs into thin strips like, then you need to stack big leaves together. Then roll them tightly and with the help of sharp knife cut them into thin strips. This method of cutting is known as Chiffonade style.
- If you want that the herbs should last longer then you need to trim them diagonally and refrigerate with water. Make sure that the leaves are not totally submerged in the water and every day change the water.
- Herbs like marjoram, sage, thyme and oregano have strong and sturdy stem. To strip off the leaves you just need to slide your fingers from top to bottom by pushing the leaves.
